Asalam-wa-Alaikum
I'm new to this site but am impressed by the enthiusiasm brothers &
sisters have for the Muslim Village concept.
I was born & raised abroad but incidentally belong to a village close to
Peshawar, Pakistan. A number of points Shaykh Imran mentions actually
'USED' to be in my village but not anymore: some of the tribal villages still
have a similar concept though not in its entirety because in Pashtun culture,
at times the Pashtun code goes beyond Islamic tradition which is not
appropriate.
When i look around me; i realise the need for a village increase day by
day. There are lands near my area which are relatively remote and there
is water too but i am still checking because the village will have to be
safe; I have taken some starting points to work on; you are welcome to
elaborate please;
- Land: Close to water but not too close for danger of flooding. Land should
be arable & a forest nearby may also be helpful for we may need wood as
well. We will have to learn farming and learn it quick! as well as
handling livestock
- Energy: Research is needed on solar energy & windmills. We will need
require solar paneling/windmills to energize the village for at least basic
requirements.
-Poppulation: I suppose 50-100 families would be ideal? The samller the
better so it will be easier to handle.
To me, structure of housing is something that would come next and requires
thought. The cuploa & container ideas put forward by the brothers
here is wonderful [& probably easier to manage for them in the West] but
does the village have to have all the same housing; it could be a
combination.
We are not communists nor are we capitalists so the village need not have
the same housing throughout. It also need not have extravagant housing
complexes either but a balanced structure whcih we could [but not in definite
terms] base on family size & earning/contribution. Best Wishes,
Khan
